STEM

St. Pius X Catholic School incorporates a STEM curriculum at every grade level.   Teachers integrate STEM into all areas of the curriculum each week.  We offer a variety of STEM clubs and afterschool programs such as our Robotics Club for grades 4 - 8.  Students demonstrating above average performance in grades 2nd - 5th are invited to join our LEAP Program which is centered around an exploration of STEM careers.  Summer camps at St. Pius X Catholic School are centered around STEM activities such as cooking, robotics, gaming, and engineering.  Each spring St. Pius X Catholic School invites our school and parish families to a STEM Night where many  of our community partners bring exciting STEM explorations activities for families to participate in such as an indoor planetarium, embryology, robotics, digging for fossils, making toys, and many other fun and engaging activities.  Come join our STEM exploration at St. Pius X Catholic School!

LEAP

Open to 2nd - 5th Grade Students

Program Overview

LEAP (Learning Enrichment Activity Program) is designed to give advanced learners in grades 2-5 an enriched, expanded learning experience that links closely and extends standards within each grade level served.  We will focus on complex, critical thinking skills within interdisciplinary content through the use of project-based learning.  We will also continue to practice and build on foundational skills in reading, math, and writing that all elementary students need.

Qualifications

Participation in LEAP is by invitation only based on certain academic measures including Terra Nova testing, trimester benchmark assessments, Lexile scores, classroom performance, and teacher recommendation.  Students who participate one year might not qualify in successive years based on increased academic expectations.

LEAP invitations will be sent out in June to qualifying students.
